My Kindle version does not have page numbers!

This is a great textbook, author has a nice writing style. But, I only uses location numbers, hard to follow when the professor uses a page number for reference!!! Most textbooks you download have both page and location numbers these days. I would not recommend purchasing Kindle version for class until they upgrade to page numbers.

The book had well organized material and worked perfectly for my nursing research class. The content helped me to write my own research paper with a proposed study for future research. Some definitions were a little vague, but I just used the internet to fill in the blanks.

BEWARE!!!! The Kindle version of this book has NO PAGE NUMBERS. I sure wish they would have told me that before I purchased it for my kindle. It's an epic mess to try to find a specific mess. The kindle version is not worth the time, money or frustration.

A terrific reference and overview for the guitarist

All of you guitarists who are into home recording (or thinking about it) should check out this book. It is a very broad, comprehensive look at recording. What's different about this book is that rather than being for producers or engineers, this one REALLY IS sharply focused on the guitarist's perspective. It covers every aspect of recording guitar, and while it doesn't go too deep in any one area, it does a GREAT job on zeroing-in on the KEY aspects of each subject (including some of the juicy secrets and tricks).
There's a lot of material covered, but the book's organizational stucture is both brilliantly logical, and simple -- it traces the whole signal path from guitar to the final output media. And the book is so well-written, clear, concise that it also makes a good cover-to-cover read.
There is some material geared toward the professional studio session man that is probably overkill for most of us. But in these cases, this is interesting reading nontheless, and there ARE details in the material you can apply to your own situation. There is also material geared to the "home recording" hobbiest. More importantly, there's a lot of info that ANY guitarist will find valuable in ANY recording situation.
If you're like me and have spent some time in studios and home recording, there's a lot of info here that you probably already know, but what I found was that it contained a LOT of very usful little details that you typically only learn through experience. And it doesn't bog you down with a lot of stuff you won't ever need to know. So if you're new to recording and feel overwhelmed, this is a GREAT place to start--there's a TON of value here.
For me, I found that it reinforces some things I already knew. But since there is SO MUCH to absorb and retain about recording, I don't mind getting that positive reinforcement--it keeps me sharp. But more importantly, I find it fills in some of the gaps and details where I might know something conceptually, but not how to achieve it.

Note: The book is more geared toward more traditional guitar recording methods than to plugging a DMA direcly into 4 track. But even if that's your approach, there's a lot of stuff here that's applicable and worth knowing.
Whether you know a lot or a little it's hard to go wrong with this one.

I agree with everything the August 15, 2001 reviewer said and add the following:
I also appreciated Jon's inclusion of the equipment used by studio guitarist Carl Verheyen. I also loved the section that discusses what effect pedals and amplifiers were used by many guitar greats to get their own "classic and trademark" sounds.(Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, etc.)
The chapter that shows some personal studios of some famous guitarists was neat as were the quotes from these individuals(Alex Liefson). The book also describes how one can make some great digital recordings when away from home or the studio.
If you play guitar and care anything about recording your own music or just love recorded music, this book is a must buy.

Jacobs follows The Friday Night Knitting Club with another multigenerational tale, this time on the foodie circuit. Popular Cooking with Gusto! host Augusta Gus Simpson, a widowed mother of two adult daughters who's about to turn 50, is tiring of her many obligations, which include throwing an annual birthday bash for herself. That trial pales, however, in comparison with the introduction of saucy former beauty queen and YouTube star Carmen Vega as Gus's cohost: Carmen is younger, hotter and very tight with the boss. It's soon apparent on the set that this new situation isn't working, so the two are packed off, along with a forgettable cast of secondaries, to a corporate team-building weekend, complete with New Age guide. When the resort's head chef calls in sick, a team-building opportunity presents itself. Jacobs gives Gus a reasonable love interest and provides the requisite bickering and backstabbing, but the foodie moments lack passion, and the results yield no stars. (May)

Even better than Friday Night Knitting Club

I was a HUGE fan of Kate Jacobs first book, Friday Night Knitting Club, so I was a little iffy about whether I wanted to read this book at all. Sometimes the second one is not as good as the first, you know? But I bought it and read it in one afternoon straight. It's actually even better than Friday Night--don't want to spoil that ending so I'll just say that this ending is very different--and the characters are just as much fun. It reminded me alot of my own family and there were some romances that were fun and real and not cliche'd. Kate Jacobs also puts in plenty of yummy descriptions of food and cooking that seriously made me hungry as I read it.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who liked her first book or to anyone who just enjoys a great read about food and family and life.

A delicious examination of relationships, aging, and the power of food

Kate Jacobs's debut novel, THE FRIDAY NIGHT KNITTING CLUB, was a word-of-mouth bestseller, catching on not only among avid knitters but also among fans of women's literature in general. It's now even set to become a feature film starring Julia Roberts, which will release sometime in 2009.

With her second novel, COMFORT FOOD, Jacobs again delves into the lives and loves of a group of interconnected friends and family. This time, however, the ending is decidedly less weepy and more, well, comforting.

Augusta (Gus) Simpson is a familiar face to millions of Americans. She's the star of the longest-running series on the Cooking Channel, "Cooking with Gusto," and her face adorns not only countless television sets but also her own line of cookware and other household products. But as Gus's fabulous lifestyle (her TV show is filmed out of the spacious kitchen in her Westchester manor home) marches on, so does time --- and Gus is staring 50 squarely in the face. Is it possible that this energetic, hot mama has left her youth behind her?

It seems that Gus's bosses at the Cooking Channel are asking themselves the same questions. With a roster of new, hip television chefs and a handful of new extreme theme programs designed to appeal to ever-younger viewers, perhaps Gus's show seems a little, well, old. Can Gus and her friends at the network figure out a new format that will preserve it from cancellation?

For Gus, the answer to her problems is right under her nose --- at her kitchen table, in fact. When an unexpected cancellation leaves Gus scrambling for show guests, she recruits her friends and family to serve as co-hosts and sous chefs, with humorous, and delicious, results. This accidental pairing of Gus's closest friends and family --- including her twenty-something daughters Sabrina and Aimee, Sabrina's ex-boyfriend Troy, and Gus's painfully reclusive neighbor Hannah --- with aspiring Cooking Channel host (and former Miss Spain) Carmen Vega leads to a new hit show...and plenty of tension. As the guests come together at Gus's table, tempers flare, tensions mount, and there's plenty of time for everyone to discover not only delicious food but also new truths about themselves.

At times, COMFORT FOOD can seem like a glimpse into a particularly fractious group therapy session, as sisters bicker with each other (and their mother), as former lovers try to become friends, as jealous co-workers negotiate professional boundaries, and as at least one woman tries to overcome her past mistakes. Jacobs successfully balances these somewhat tiresome exchanges, however, by offering numerous flashbacks into each character's past, providing much-needed character development that can help gain readers' sympathy for these sometimes prickly individuals.

Gus herself is a winning character, and readers will be cheering for this mature, lively heroine to achieve both professional and personal success --- which may even include love, an ingredient that's been missing from Gus's life since her husband's death years before. Happy endings and a mid-life shot at romance will leave readers of COMFORT FOOD satisfied but looking forward to another helping of feel-good women's fiction from Kate Jacobs.

Very average!

Kate Jacob's "Comfort Food" revolved around Gus, a popular TV show host for the Cooking Channel. Despite that Gus's program was the longest running series on the channel, the number of viewers had gone down, and Gus' bosses begin to wonder if Gus is too old for the program. Gus, was afterall in her fifties. In order to spice up her series, Gus was paired with a former beauty pageant from Spain who will join her in her cooking show. Her working life was obviously not going well, and even her personal life was problematic. Gus' two adult daughters were complete opposite of one another. Aimee, an Economist, was serious, studious, and felt she was neglected due to the neediness of her younger sister, Sabrina. Sabrina had commitment problems and despite many engagements, she's still unmarried, and unable to commit to one person. To make her life worse, the producers decided to put her entire family, and a few others (including Sabrina's ex-boyfriend, Gus's friend who is a recluse).

This was an okay read for me. The pace of the book was a little slow for me, The book was fairly well-written, but unfortunately not very engaging and rather predictable too. It wasn't one of those books where you can't put down. If you are a huge fan of Kate Jacob, this may be for you. But if you are looking for a more interesting read, there are definitely better ones out there. Very average!

I don't know why people are degrading this book. If they don't like it then they need to choose another or use some supplementary material with it. This book is mainly for mathematics majors. It focuses mostly on theory with some applications. Usually your first course in Linear Algebra focuses on methods rather than a lot of theory. However, this book is designed for a second course in Linear Algebra. This book is used for first year Graduate Linear Algebra at U.R.I. and as a mathematics major you do need to know theory as well.

I have never seen a book which hides so many important details (and even basic definitions) in exercises. This book was terrible to learn from and even worse as a reference. It also omits or glosses over a number of important topics including quadratic forms and matrix norms.

Finally some new ideas for teachers using Google Apps!

I don't often write reviews on Amazon, however, this book is a GREAT resource. As a teacher in a district that uses Google Apps, this was one of the first books I read that gave me new ideas, instead of more of the same basic tips. It may only be 122 pages, but don't let that turn you away from purchasing this book. Many pages have valuable resources on it that require time to try them out and find what is best for you. Although I finished reading the text, I have a long way to go as far as exploring all the tools mentioned.
I labeled a few things I thought would have a significant improvement on my instruction, and will start creating those HyperDocs for the next school year. I showed a few colleagues who also value google apps as a means to enhance instruction and they all asked if they could borrow the book. Immediately they commented on how much they loved the layout/format of the writing and tools. I had to say no because it is not a book that goes on a shelf when you finish reading it. Between the resources in this book, and Alice Keeler's book, I think the way myself and co-teacher implement google apps into our instruction will be more engaging for the students, and lead to higher student success in our class. Myself and Co-Teacher thank the authors for a well put together book.

(One personal note: I generally purchase my books in the Kindle format, however, for this one I would recommend buying the physical copy)

This is THE book for any level teacher looking to learn how to easily weave all the pieces together in a well-packaged, strong, transformative 21st Century lesson design. Hyperdocs will engage learners with multi-layered, robust content. The Hyperdoc Handbook shows all teachers, coaches or administrators how to walk through the creation process with extensive reasoning, encouragement, step-by-step directions to build their own hyperdoc, numerous downloadable examples, tons of possible tech tools, extra tips & tricks, an most importantly - an open invitation to join the Teachers Give Teachers community. The Handbook will level up hyperdocs; the authors have explicitly focused on how the Four C's, ISTE Standards, DOK, and SAMR all need to be considered in the creation process. A summer must read!

This book is written clearly and concisely for beginning users of Google Apps, however, the content is so dense, Google Certified Educators will still walk away with great ideas. Between the Middle East and the Americas: The Cultural Politics of Diaspora traces the production and circulation of discourses about "the Middle East" across various cultural sites, against the historical backdrop of cross-Atlantic Mahjar flows. The book highlights the fraught and ambivalent situation of Arabs/Muslims in the Americas, where they are at once celebrated and demonized, integrated and marginalized, simultaneously invisible and spectacularly visible. The essays cover such themes as Arab hip-hop's transnational imaginary; gender/sexuality and the Muslim digital diaspora; patriotic drama and the media's War on Terror; the global negotiation of the Prophet Mohammad cartoons controversy; the Latin American paradoxes of Turcophobia/Turcophilia; the ambiguities of the bellydancing fad; French and American commodification of Rumi spirituality; the reception of Iranian memoirs as cultural domestication; and the politics of translation of Turkish novels into English. Taken together, the essays analyze the hegemonic discourses that position "the Middle East" as a consumable exoticized object, while also developing complex understandings of self-representation in literature, cinema/TV, music, performance, visual culture, and digital spaces. Charting the shifting significations of differing and overlapping forms of Orientalism, the volume addresses Middle Eastern diasporic practices from a transnational perspective that brings postcolonial cultural studies methods to bear on Arab American studies, Middle Eastern studies, and Latin American studies. Between the Middle East and the Americas disentangles the conventional separation of regions, moving beyond the binarist notion of "here" and "there" to imaginatively reveal the thorough interconnectedness of cultural geographies.
